Veto power in the U.N security council

Updated: Jun 3

The United Nations Security Council has five permanent members (P5): China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Each P5 member holds veto power, which allows them to block any substantive action from being adopted by the council through an act known as a “veto.”
